Guest Column: Three Bands You May Not Know But Should By The Ongoing Concept’s Dawson Scholz

Guest Column

We’ve reached out to our metal and hard rock brethren across the land, asking that they contribute prose to our recent series of guest columns. We ran a recent series on Five Albums That Will Change You, and the response was overwhelming.

The topic is Three Bands You May Not Know About But Should, and we asked that each guest writer jot down a brief description of what makes each band worthy of our attention. Today, we are excited to continue this ongoing series with an entry written by The Ongoing Concept’s Dawson Scholz.

The first band you should know is Deaf Havana. These guys are from the UK and formed in 2005. They used to have a post-hardcore sound to them with a mix of screaming and singing. Their screamer left in 2009 and the band decided to continue on without him.

What makes this band so great is they decided to continue as a four-piece and become a rock band. Their next album turned out amazing and it’s so cool to see these guys change and progress. Not many bands can pull it off but they do it flawlessly. Plus James’ voice is amazing!

The second band is Don Broco. These guys are also from the U.K. They have an alternative rock sound to them. What makes them so great is how catchy their songs are. Almost every song on their new album gets stuck in your head and you can’t help but hum their tunes all day. They also have amazing music videos. Every video they do is a masterpiece. It makes you enjoy the music so much more.

The third band/artist is Jonny Lang. This guy has been around for years. He is a phenomenal guitar player but what makes him so awesome is his voice. It’s got such a bluesy/gospel sound to it you would never think he is some skinny white guy from North Dakota. His album Turn Around will be sure to make you an instant fan.
