Guest Column: Three Movies You Must See By Sun & Sail Club’s Bob Balch

Guest Column

After Dustin Boltjes of Skeletonwitch contributed a column on must-see horror flicks, we decided to open the topic up to the members of other bands. Why? Well, in addition to music and literature, we’re huge movie buffs and feel maybe your life could benefit from a big screen broadening. So here for you now is a column from Bob Balch, who is a member of Fu Manchu and this new band you may have read about on the site, Sun & Sail Club.

“Shock ‘Em Dead”
This sound cheesy, but I saw this movie on acid when I was 16-years-old and the next day, I didn’t believe what I had just seen.

A shitty guitar player sells his soul to become a shredder. He joins a band and begins killing people. This is hands-down one of my favorite movies of all time.

“Eddie and The Cruisers 2”
If you watch this movie, I’m sure you’ll get douche chills. There is a band, a young shredder, two tour vans, Irish mist, a mustache that hides a man’s identity, tears, a green Lado guitar and a saxophone solo on a mountain top that overlooks a waterfall.

There is a song on the new Sun & Sail Club record titled “Season In Hell” that is all about this movie.

“Gang Justice”
The cover of the DVD features a bunch of gang members, so I bought it. Any 1980s movie about gang members, I’ll buy.

Turns out there are no gangs in it at all. It’s about a Korean kid who hates his life in Canada. This movie contains flutes, karate, high school angst, and the worst dance club you’ll ever see. There is a song on the new Sun & Sail Club record titled “Gang Justice.”

You guessed it. It’s about this movie. “Gang Justice” rules!

Watch it in its entirety below!
