Guest Column

After Dustin Boltjes of Skeletonwitch contributed a column on must-see horror flicks, we decided to open the topic up to the members of other bands. Why? Well, in addition to music and literature, we’re huge movie buffs and feel maybe your life could benefit from a big screen broadening.

So here for you now is a column for you by Aaron Coker from Sisters Of…, who you should check out here.

“The House Of The Devil”

This movie will make any old school horror fan happy. No special effects and the perfect slow build. Ti West is becoming a master of this in my eyes. Besides, what is better than an unknowing babysitter, being chosen by the family she is babysitting for, to be apart of a satanic ritual. I mean, even the grandma takes place in this ritual. At least I hope it was the grandma.

Ok. Now this movie is beyond bizarre. You can’t tell if you should be laughing, or feel compassionate and sympathetic, or be terrified at this woman’s descent in to total madness. Yes, it is an older program so it can seem extra hokey at times but it is without a doubt captivating. The scene of her in the tunnel at the subway station is jaw dropping. Just watch it. Please.

“Trick Or Treat”

This one is based on pure nostalgia. A kid in high school who is picked on for being the creepy weirdo metal head or what not brings back the local legend rock star from the dead by playing his record backwards? I’m in. Please don’t let the fact that this kid is played by Scotty from “Family Ties” ruin it for you. Also, don’t let the fact that Ozzy Osbourne plays a preacher in it ruin it for you. Also, the killer shoots lightning out of his guitar to kill people.
