After Dustin Boltjes of Skeletonwitch contributed a column on must-see horror flicks, we decided to open the topic up to the members of other bands. Why? Well, in addition to music and literature, we’re huge movie buffs and feel maybe your life could benefit from a big screen broadening.

So here for you now is a new column from Michael Lawson of Jupiter Zeus.

I like any movie which is out there and different. I get bored watching the normal stuff you see in theaters. If I watch a film and start going “WTF is going on here?” then generally I’ll like it. So three movies I like (which I doubt most people would like) are as follows:

Eraserhead
David Lynches first feature film. Possibly one of the weirdest/awesome films I’ve ever seen. The storyline appears to be something loosely based around a guy just kinda walking around the place not doing much and some random things that happen. I read somewhere that the script was only a few pages long which makes sense. Quite often when I have people over I bring them into my home theatre and make them watch it. Usually they get half way through and want to watch something more entertaining. I can only watch the whole thing maybe once a year at the most. A cult/underground movie at its absolute best. Certainly not for everybody.

Donnie Darko
I’ve watched this one a few times and I understand it less everytime I watch it. I love films that completely mess with your head and this one does it in spades. There’s something very unnerving about that weird goathead/rabbit thing that keeps popping up. Can’t forget to mention the awesome soundtrack as well. Totally suits the movie.

Freddy Got Fingered
I remember I saw a preview of a movie once which was the stupidest thing I’d ever seen but I could never remember the name of it. I searched for years and the only thing I could remember was a line “daddy would you like some sausage?” as it turned out that movie was Freddy Got Fingered. Possibly one of the stupidest/funniest films you could ever hope to see. I don’t know that much about Tom Green but he is one of the funniest people I’ve ever seen in this movie. There’s so much comedy gold in this film its impossible to list it all.
