After Dustin Boltjes of Skeletonwitch — one of our newest writers — contributed a column on must-see horror flicks, we decided to open the topic up to the members of other bands. Why? Well, in addition to music and literature, we’re huge movie buffs and feel maybe your life could benefit from a big screen broadening.
I have too many favorites from all genres, so I chose three movies from my childhood that got me into my movie obsession.
“Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back”
My all time favorite. I’ve been watching the original trilogy as long as I can remember. There is so much that I love about this movie. Irvin Kershner’s directing, John Williams’ score, the set/costume design, character development, and the progressive writing and story jump from “A New Hope.”
I know every word and it never gets old.
“The Spy Who Loved Me”
I had to put Bond on this list. I wouldn’t consider the 007 films to be Oscar worthy but they are classics. I chose this one because it’s the first Bond I saw as a kid and the opening scene is too good for words.
The constant ridiculous shit going on in this movie is unreal and that’s why I love it. After seeing it I made a weekly trip with my dad to Blockbuster so I could watch all of them.
“2001: A Space Odyssey”
Stanley Kubrick might be my favorite director. This movie inspired me to study filmmaking and to write my own stories. The directing and visuals are fascinating. It still holds up today among the other sci fi greats.
