Guest Column: Three Movies You Need To See By Septycal Gorge’s Marco Lasano

Check out these three unusual flicks

Marco Lasano

After Dustin Boltjes of Skeletonwitch — one of our newest writers — contributed a column on must-see horror flicks, we decided to open the topic up to the members of other bands. Why? Well, in addition to music and literature, we’re huge movie buffs and feel maybe your life could benefit from a big screen broadening.

So here for you now is a new column from Marco Lasano, Septycal Gorge’s guitarist.

I think this movie — from Lars Von Trier — is very powerful and intense. I don’t want to talk about the plot but it’s about madness, fear and occultism. The first part of the film is very slow and psychological, while the last part is a triumph of psychotic violence. The atmosphere of the whole movie is dark and permeated with an unnatural calmness despite the rawness of the topic. Awesome.

Old Boy
It’s a Korean movie from Park Chan-Wook with an insane plot about a man jailed in a room with no windows for 15 years without an apparent reason. He will be set free just to make him discover the meaning of all that just happened to him. The ending is like — WOAH!!! The story is taken from a manga and it’s the second chapter of a trilogy about vengeance. A must see for sure!

The Calamari Wrestler
Oh, well, it’s about a squid doing wrestling, from Minoru Kawasaki. Do I really need to say more?? Watch it!
