For months now, Gun Shy Assassin has been bringing you an ongoing string of quick, casual, off-the-cuff interviews with the very talented Chris Adler, drummer for the one and only Lamb of God. We’ve been bringing you updates on the new Lamb of God album, Chris’ life, and his obsession with mint cookie ice cream. Of course, Chris will continue to check in with Gun Shy Assassin from time to time with updates on what’s going on in his world, and will occasionally answer some topical and ridiculous questions from me. Thanks for reading the previous installments of Adler Chatter, and now, here is an exclusive you will only find at Gun Shy: the fourteenth installment of Adler Chatter with Chris Adler.
It sounds like things are cruising along in Lamb of God land. The Virginia-based band continue working on the follow-up to Wrath with producer Josh Wilbur, and Adler tells me they’re still on course to get the album done and to their label in October.
“We have taken all necessary precautions to make sure any and all improvements could be made, and consolidations could be condensed into making sure what we put forth has the most genuine impact,” Adler tells Gun Shy Assassin. “We really did set up the schedule to be liberal as far as allowing us to kind of mull things over and make sure that at the end, it’s where we want it. Not in a lazy way, but in a way that we’ve never allowed ourselves before.”
Adler says that will past studio efforts, “there was always this looming deadline where, at the end, some ideas were scrubbed or just could never come to fruition because of time constraints.” This time around, Lamb of God afforded themselves the time to consider all ideas.
“I think everybody showed up and gave their best,” Adler says. “The drums are done; the guitars are done. Randy is in an undisclosed location doing his best to put the icing on the cake.”
And what a delicious cake that will be. Oh man, I can’t wait to start hearing completed songs. That is going to be sick. Lamb of God are one of those bands that it’s almost impossible not to like. But Adler says that what Lamb of God have created this go-around is innovative and unique.
“There’s constantly stuff coming out that’s really great,” said Adler. “I just go the new Sylosis; Trivium came out with something new this week. There are a bunch of cool bands out there doing different things. There’s new Machine Head coming out soon, and it looks like the Slipknot guys are thinking of doing something. I think we do have something pretty special on the horizon.”
Sounds like Chris knows something about Slipknot that we don’t know. I guess they’re working on new stuff. Anyways, that’s it for Adler Chatter this time. Check back in coming weeks for more Adler Chatter, and more information about the new Lamb of God LP.
Chris Adler is the drummer for Grammy-nominated metal band Lamb of God and the author of the book “The Making of Lamb of God’s New American Gospel,” a comprehensive behind-the-scenes narrative book detailing the early days of Lamb of God and the writing and recording of their New American Gospel LP.
