A press release showed up in my inbox today alerting me of the fact that Insomnium — a guitar-heavy melodic death metal band from Finland who’d probably tickle your ass with a feather if you’re an Opeth or an At The Gates fan — have inked a deal with Century Media Records. Someone told me about this band a few months back and I am thrilled for them. They deserve it.
These dudes are riffmongers. And the guitars can go from sinister to progressive in a heartbeat. I’m psyched to hear the band’s Century Media debut. They’ll hit the studio this fall to start work on that disc.
“We are very happy to announce that we have signed a deal with the mighty Century Media Records,” says the band in a statement. “Throughout the spring and summer we negotiated with several attractive labels but in the end, it was clear that Century Media would be our home for the years to come. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and genuine love for music made an instant impact on us. We are convinced that this alliance will lead to even greater achievements in the future and also avails us to tour outside Europe more often. And naturally it is a great honor for us to stand in the same team with the likes of Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy, Paradise Lost, The Haunted, Finntroll and Turisas. A new exciting chapter in the story of Insomnium has begun!”
Until the new album comes out, you can check out the band’s MySpace (where there’s even a sick video with frenzied hair-whippage) and Insomnium’s 2009 LP Across the Dark.
