Ipsissimus’ Metal Blade Debut Due May 10

Oh snap, sucka! The Way of Descent, the forthcoming Metal Blade Records debut from New Haven, Connecticut-based black metal band Ipsissimus, will be in stores on May 10. Of course, the band features my good buddy The Goat on guitars, and recently, The Goat went online to announce the news.

“May 10, 2011… the Holy Father will have much to suffer,” The Goat wrote on Facebook last night. Ipsissimus is currently putting the finishing touches on their The Way of Descent, which was recorded in the fall at Sonic Environments Studios with producer and mixer Jeff Weed.

“The title aims to encapsulate the lyrical matter of the new songs, which deal with various katagogic themes in Gnostic, Luciferian, and Merkavah traditions as applied to Left Hand ethics and praxis,” says drummer Haimatokharmes of The Way of Descent. “Expect some traditional black, melodic riffage à la the Fatima material as well as the occasional avant-garde element — I believe this will be the first black metal album to employ a waterphone.”

The band will be performing tonight in Milford, Connecticut, with Toxic Holocaust and have a bunch of shows coming up. There’s Boston’s “No Life Fest” at the Midway Cafe in Jamaica Plain on March 5, and the band is playing the Union Pool in Brooklyn with The Secret and The Funeral Pyre on March 27.
