Roy Khan has finally broken his silence regarding the sudden cancellation of Kamelot’s North American tour, which would’ve kicked off last week. Khan decided to return to Norway for medical treatment, which halted the band’s plans to tour the continent.
In an interview with Norway’s Østlendingen, Khan — born Roy Sætre Khantatat — explains that he had a “breakdown” and that he’s just burned out.
“I am burned out, pure and simple,” Khan says. “A breakdown a couple of weeks ago gave me a serious indication that something was wrong. Now I’m just glad and relieved that I got to the doctor.” Khan doesn’t elaborate beyond that about his illness or what the symptoms of the illness. He just had a meltdown.
Khan’s been ignoring his cell phone and hasn’t been online to check his email. “I haven’t had the energy to check either my cell phone or my mail. It’s been difficult to keep up with my own and other people’s expectations of me.”
Khan is recovering in his native land and says he needs “this break.” But his is glad to be back in Norway. “I want to be around my family, my home region and the mountains,” he says.
And I wish I could go to Norway. I want to see those mountains. Those must be some mountains.
