Yes, yes — I know, folks. You already knew that Killswitch Engage were working on new material. But did you know that is happening right now. Literally.
Somewhere in Massachusetts (I’m assuming), the entirety of Killswitch Engage is holed up in a room, hammering out songs and putting riffs together with bass lines and drum punches.
“Rockin with the boys for the next 4 days,” Mike D’Antonio — bassist for Killswitch — revealed on Facebook yesterday. Sorry I was slow to report it. I was fucking busy, y’all. Busy sleeping.
“Even Howard is coming. Time to write a record!,” his post concludes.
I, for one, am psyched and I’m gonna tell you why. From what I know about what Mike D’s bringing to the table, this next record is going to be a return to form.
Killswitch will likely hit the studio in February and March with a summer 2012 release being eyed. Which probably means a Mayhem slot.
When we spoke to Mike over the summer, he said that the stuff he was writing on his own was fast.
“That was the original Killswitch theme. When we originally started, the plan was ‘Cut out all the fat and just get to the meat of a song and get it over with as soon as possible. On our first record [2000’s self-titled debut], a lot of the songs are pretty short, and they have that sort of oomph that I am trying to establish these days.”
When Mike played some of his demos for Adam Dutkiewicz, he turned “to me and said, ‘This is exactly the stuff I’m thinking of writing.’ So we’ll see if that translates.”
