TMZ.com is reporting that the promoters of the Michael Jackson tribute concert have cut Kiss from the show’s bill.
Why? Because Kiss sucks now. No — I’m just kidding. It’s really because of negative comments Kiss bassist and vocalist Gene Simmons made about Jackson in interviews the days and weeks after his death two years ago.
Simmons basically referenced Jackson’s child molestation case. Of course, Michael was acquitted of being a kid toucher, but we all know the clumsy, sticky truth.
“Michael Forever: The Tribute Concert” is scheduled for October 8 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Alien Ant Farm will be performing, as will Leona Lewis, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, and Smokey Robinson. They should change the name of this concert to “Boringpalooza.”
The show’s promoters tell TMZ.com that they “have listened to Michael’s fans and are grateful to have been alerted to these unfortunate statements by Gene Simmons. Under the circumstances we fully agree that even though Kiss is a band Michael admired we have no choice but to rescind our invitation to them to appear in our tribute concert.”
What did Gene say?
He said he knew some of the musicians Jackson toured with, and cited one who quit after seeing “boys coming out of the hotel rooms…Well, you know, where there’s smoke there’s fire. There’s no question in my mind he molested those kids. Not a doubt.”
