It’s the perfect kind of day for some fresh black metal, people.
I’m here in Weehawken, New Jersey, just across the river from the greatest city in the world, and the trees are bare, it is cloudy, dismal, and cold out, and the ground is covered in an amalgamation of slush, salt, and dog feces.
The weather here in the New York area is befitting of today’s exclusive song stream, which you will only hear on GunShyAssassin — something we are quite proud of.
The song is called “Drammen,” and comes from Norwegian black metal force Koldbrann’s new album, Vertigo. You can hear it at the end of this post. You should listen to it. The track explodes, and rips through your subconscious like a freight train covered in barbed wire.
Koldbrann, for those that don’t know, was formed 2001 by vocalist Mannevond. Together with compatriots such as 1349, Urgehal and others, the band from Drammen remained true to the early spirit of the genre.
Epithets such as “symphonic” were clearly shunned by Koldbrann in favor of a cold and raw sound. Vertigo is just an all-around solid black metal record, giving you all those elements your dingy ears crave.
The album sees the band drawing deep from its black roots, but at the same time adding an uncanny groove.
Vertigo will be released by Season of Mist next week, people. Go pick it up and make your world a little darker.
