You know, the funny thing about most metal musicians I know is they’re not ignorant fucks.
Some of their fans may be, but they’re not. They don’t just listen to metal or hardcore. They may prefer those genres, but generally speaking, these dudes are well-rounded with vast musical preferences.
Take Killswitch Engage frontman Jesse Leach.
The man’s eclectic as hell when it comes to what he listens to. In fact, he has a serious appreciation for reggae and ska music, which I, too, must admit I am also quite partial to. I also listen to trip hop, old school rap, punk, and some popular music.
Are my top 20 favorite albums predominantly metal releases? Yes. But fuck…man can not live on metal alone. Switch shit up, folks.
Anyways, Jesse’s been hinting for a while he’d like to release some solo music under the moniker “AliKeN,” and today, he posted a song online that basically sounds nothing like what he does with Killswitch. Or Times of Grace. Or The Empire Shall Fall.
