Lord Dying, an incredibly sick band signed to Relapse Records, recently finished a brief tour of the West Coast with Castle — all in support of their forthcoming album,Poisoned Altars. The guys agreed to keep a little tour diary for us, and what follows is the second and last installment, written by the band’s Erik Olson.

We woke up in El Paso after a playing Juarez, Mexico, the night before and had a short six-hour drive to Tucson, Arizona. When we arrived, we were greeted shortly thereafter by our good friend, Ms. Hannah Levine, who had recently moved to Tucson from Seattle.
We played at the Skybar with Goatroper and Lethal Dosage.
Tucson always rules! After the show, we stayed with Hannah and she had snacks and drinks waiting, and beds or couch space for everyone to sleep on. She’s a very classy lady!

We left Hannah’s house around noon and got breakfast in Tucson. Excellent breakfast burritos. You can’t fuck with Mexican food when you’re in the Southwest.
After arriving in Phoenix, we unloaded our gear and did our sound check. Then, Cheeto, Don and I went record shopping. Picked up some killer vinyl at Revolver Records; we definitely recommend this shop!
We shredded Club Red to dust, got a hotel and went to sleep. Exciting times.

We arrived in San Diego after a short drive from Phoenix, and got some killer BBQ next to the venue. Sliders, half sammies and mac and cheese.
Shortly after, Cheeto and I went record shopping at Off the Record, another killer shop we definitely recommend. I pounded a grande coffee drink and we headed back to the club.
We met up with some old friends at the show and had a great night! We got another hotel and went to sleep. Non-stop thrill fest .

The show was free and our pal Jeff from the Shrine came out as well as a few other folks.
The show went really well and somebody from the crowd captured the whole show, and you can view it on YouTube!
After the show we drove to Hollywood to stay with our friend’s Danny and Rynne at their guesthouse. Some of you may know Danny as the drummer from a lil’ ol’ band called Tool.
It was a blast as always, he has some badass old synthesizers that Cheeto pretended to know how to operate and a Lamborghini that Chris pretended to drive. Good times!

After the show in Walnut Creek on November 20, we decided to drive to Reno and get a hotel room for two nights because they are super cheap there! It was awesome.
The show at Jub Jubs was super fun and then we headed back to the Sands Casino for a little gambling. We all lost money, but Chris still decided to do cart wheels outside and make the best of it even though it was super cold!

The drive from Reno to Bend was gorgeous and I highly recommend it. It felt like the “old West” for sure.
When we were stopped for gas out in the middle of nowhere a 14-year-old girl comes walking into the gas station with a giant python rapped around her neck!
The show in Bend was awesome. An old buddy of Don’s came out to the show and took Don and I to a strip club called Stars Cabaret.
When we got there they said there was a $5 cover but it also included a free Prime Rib dinner! Steak and legs, bonus! After the show we decided to drive the three hours home to Portland to sleep in our own beds.
Monday, November 24
Our homecoming and end of tour show in Portland was a total success. Holy Grove played first and completely destroyed! Andrea has such an amazing voice and they’re super tight.
Next up was Norska who obliterated all that was left followed by Castle and ourselves.
We played an encore of “Dreams of Mercy” and called our old drummer Jon Reid up to the stage. It was such a fun show, good times were had by all.
Lord Dying’s new album can be pre-ordered here, and a track off of it follows below.
