I like Machine Head as much as the next guy if not more so. I think Machine Head’s albums are fucking rad. I just don’t happen to think Unto The Locust is the greatest name for a record.
I mean, Machine Head have their reasons for naming their new record Unto The Locust but to me, that title doesn’t incite excitement. When I first read it, I just sort of shrugged and thought, “Well, that’s kind of boring.”
Am I right? Wrong? An asshole? Unto The Locust will be in stores in late September through the band’s longtime label Roadrunner Records. The CD was recorded at JingleTown Studios in Oakland, with frontman Robb Flynn producing, and according to a press release, “it is sure to level anything and everything that happens upon its path.”
Machine Head will prepare for the release of their new album by appearing on the main stage of this summer’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival for key dates, while headlining the Extreme Stage for others. This is the band’s second tour of duty on Mayhem, as they appeared on the festival during its inaugural run in 2008.
You can hear the first single off of the record — called “Locust” — right here.
