This story’s kind of weird, and serves as a reminder that people are lying pieces of shit.
News reports claim a man who told people he was former White Zombie drummer Phil Buerstatte was taken into custody by police last week, and arrested on suspicion of defrauding a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Sausalito, California.
The man — Loren Breckenridge, 46 — is accused of trying to pass a fraudulent $75,000 check to the Alta Mira Recovery Center, where he was treated in June with a fraudulent check and bank account information.
Investigating officers say they have yet to ascertain whether he is actually Phil Buerstatte, someone else using his name, or is really Loren Breckenridge and uses Phil Buerstatte as a stage name.
Over the course of their investigation, Sausalito police determined Breckenridge was being interviewed by Novato Police Department after a rehabilitation center in that city reported he was staying there — and that he was the subject of a warning bulletin issued by the National Association of Addiction Treatment Centers.
That’s nutty. Whoever would’ve thought there was such a thing?
Said Sausalito Sgt. Bill Fraass: “He would show up and tell people he was this rock star and needed treatment. In all my years of police work, I have never seen a case like this — someone defrauding rehab centers.”
