So, here’s a sobering reality: Today, I turned 35 years old. When I was 15, that was the benchmark — that was the age at which I considered someone old. I remember being that age, and seeing some hot chick in a movie, and I asked my dad how old the broad was and he said, “Probably 35.” My first thought was, “Oh shit. I just wanted to bang an old lady.”
This has nothing to do with Mastodon, or the upcoming ZZ Top tribute compilation coming out, but hang with me for a minute. I’d say ten years ago, I never would have imagined I’d be where I’m at: single, childless, and struggling like the rest of America amid the worst recession in recent memory. I never imagined I’d be running my own site either, which is kind of cool. But really, I have to be honest: I’m the same fucking person I was when I was 15, only a little more experienced.
Being the type of dude who historically dwells on the past, I’ve recently decided that instead of looking back on what was and wasn’t, I’d keep my focus on the future. I’d look forward. So, am I bummed I am 35? Not at all. Fuck, I’m single, with no kids, and the possibilities are basically wide the fuck open. The site is growing with every passing month, and shit — the economy is going to turn around eventually. It’s a good day, folks. Be positive.
So, yeah — Mastodon will be on this compilation called ZZ Top: A Tribute From Friends. Mastodon’s cover of “Just Got Paid” will be on it, along with Filter’s “Gimmie All Your Lovin’” and Wolfmother’s “Cheap Sunglasses.” Duff McKagan’s Loaded tackles “Got Me Under Pressure” while Coheed and Cambria do their best on “Beer Drinkers And Hell Raisers.”
