Atlanta progressive metal act Mastodon are in the studio, currently recording the as-yet-untitled follow-up to Crack The Skye at Doppler Studios in Atlanta with producer Mike Elizondo.
But first, drum tracks were previously completed in Los Angeles at the legendary Sound City Studios, where Nirvana’s Nevermind was recorded. According to the band, two of the song’s titles will be “Blasteroids” and “All The Heavy Lifting.”
Brann Dailor recently said of the new disc that it was nearly completed, but he was — of course — talking about the writing of the disc. Now, the band is in full-blown tracking mode. So are Lamb of God. Wonder if they’ll be touring together in 2012? That would be phat.
“It doesn’t seem as proggy,” Brann said. “There’s moments, but it seems more riff-oriented. It seems a little more stripped down. [2004’s] Leviathan was a little more stripped down, and it feels like that to me. Everything always changes once you go in the studio, but at the moment it seems like a really super-heavy Led Zeppelin or something.”
