Chances are, no. But MetalSucks spotted a Web site called Interpunk that is claiming there is a live recording of Mastodon’s 2009 performance at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom that will drop March 15. The title of the live record? Live at the Aragon. Something tells me Mastodon would put more than five seconds worth of thought into a better album title than that, so I say this is mere rumor.
However, the band did announce in 2009 that they would be recording that Aragon show, and lots of people assumed that there would be a re-issue of the last album, on which the live tracks would appear as a bonus CD. But could they be destined for a stand-alone release that lands in record stores March 15?
I guess we shall see. I’m not really a fan of “live” records unless I was at the show, but Mastodon fans are rabid; they’ll buy anything Mastodon. So, yes — still a rumor, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were true.
The band recently broke the news to fans in a recent Tweet that they’re active and working on new shit. “Hello all, we are currently in the writing process for the next album. Lot’s of riffs have been collected!!!” Ooh, phat-asmagoric!
