It’s a touching tribute to the murdered Metallica fan, who disappeared from one of the band’s concerts in Virginia and was presumably abducted and killed by her assailant. Morgan Harrington will be honored with a posthumous degree from the school she was attending at the time of her death: Virginia Tech.
According to local reports, Virginia Tech’s Department of Religion and Culture will award the degree to Harrington’s parents during spring commencement ceremonies.
Harrington was 20 when she disappeared from Metallica’s show in October 2009 after leaving a concert at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
It’s been more than a year since the discovery of her body and police are still looking for the person responsible for the slaying; Morgan’s body was discovered in a remote farm field. Police say that a distinctive necklace, worn by Harrington the night she vanished, has not been found.
