My buddy Rob over at Metal Injection interviewed Mike Portnoy from the black carpet of the Revolver Golden Gods Awards last week, and questionable jacket aside, it was a fairly decent interview that captured Portnoy in an honest way.
When asked if it was strange to have his exit from Dream Theater play out so publicly, Portnoy opened up.
“It kind of sucks, actually,” says Portnoy. “It’s like getting a divorce on national TV. It’s kind of fucked up because anything I would say would be misinterpreted or taken the wrong way. It was never my intention to even go public with this; I wanted to have a quiet, little personal situation happen. But it is what it is, and I’m here and I’m happy.”
He’s happy. And he is here. That’s great, Mike.
Remember, it was almost a year ago that Portnoy did what we never imagined he would, and left Dream Theater. Willingly.
The band has since documented their search for a new kitman and have already started releasing documentary-style footage of that search online.
