So…maybe Jose Mangin just doesn’t understand what happened here.
Yesterday, Liquid Metal’s Mangin said that MTV was burying “Headbangers Ball;” turns out the channel’s Web site hosted an online version of the “Ball,” hosted by Jose.
But a spokesperson for MTV says “Headbangers Ball” is continuing, without Jose.
Maybe he didn’t understand that he was being fired, and just thought they were pulling the plug on the show altogether? I have no idea how there could be such a discrepancy.
MTV’s statement to Spin claims the channel “is committed to the ‘Headbangers Ball’ franchise and can confirm that it will continue as an online destination with its hub remaining on MTV2.com. The company’s deal with Jose Mangin has concluded. However, MTV will continue to program a weekly playlist for fans of the genre.”
So, that’s that. But let’s be real — who are they kidding?
MTV doesn’t give two shits about music anymore, unless its teen-pleasing pop garbage.
No one is going to MTV to find metal news or insight — trust me. So, really, I think MTV should cancel the “Ball” altogether, and stop pretending it means anything to anyone over at 1515.
