The word BluBlocker takes me back about 20 years to a simpler time…when TV commercials and their cheesiness was enough to make me laugh.
These days, it takes a lot more to make this grimace go away.
Anyways, when I was in high school, they ran a commercial for BluBlockers, these amber-colored shades. They had this lame rapper dude on the commercial, rhyming about the sunglasses.
It’s funny, because now, Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx is teaming with the sunglass maker to release his own line of shades.
“I was blown away with these BluBlocker sunglasses and asked my manager to find the head of the company that makes them. I wanted to share my discovery with my fans,” says Sixx.
Sixx’s management team contacted Joe Sugarman, founder of the company and a big fan of Sixx. “This was a match made in heaven,” says Sugarman. “We plan to create a special style for Sixx and his fans.”
A whole line for less than 100 people? That’s a tax write-off if ever there was one.
“When an artist genuinely loves a product like this, the fans respect the integrity of the partnership,” says Lori Lambert, who brokered the deal.
The style Sixx fell in love with was the pair introduced in the ’80s on national television. It soon became a major hit with BluBlocker, selling over 20 million pairs throughout the world.
The Sixx designer models retail for just $49.95.
Go here to waste your money.
And for reference, here’s that commercial, which I am discovering is oddly racist now.
