THE ONE FESTIVAL I HAD TICKETS FOR, and they cancel it!
That was the thought thousands of Bulgarians had when they learned today that the Sonisphere Festival had been cancelled; not my thought, because I don’t fly to Bulgaria to go to shows. I don’t even hop the bus to New York for shows sometimes.
But this is sad, indeed. To all of our loyal Bulgarian readership: We’re sorry. We had nothing to do with it.
“Due to reasons outside Balkan Entertainment’s control and at the instruction of the license-holder for Sonisphere in Bulgaria, the Sonisphere Bulgaria 2011 festival, planned for June 21, 2011, at the National Hippodrome in Bankya, is cancelled,” promoters Balkan Entertainment said in a statement, announcing the cancellation.
Iron Maiden was supposed to play, which sucks for our Bulgarian friends…and others from Europe who were planning on making the trek.
Perhaps not coincidentally, the festival’s cancellation follows on the heels of Slipknot’s announcement that they would not be playing the festival; that meant the Sonisphere lost one of its headliners.
