Orgy Want Your Money For New Albums, Own Label

Orgy

This is a first.

A band — namely, Orgy — have launched a crowd-funding effort to finance the formation of a label, as well as future releases from the group.

How much are they seeking from their fans? Approximately $100,000.

I wonder if the people who contribute to the effort will get to have a stake in the label…like shareholders.

See, that’d be the way I’d do it. I’d sell stock in GSA, and then have shareholders vote on various site-related issues.

No I wouldn’t. That would be fucking swank, but it’ll never happen.

“The music industry today is very different from what the music industry was, what used to be a thriving industry of large labels has now dwindled down to just a few and has made it extremely difficult to be successful,” says the band in a badly-misspelled statement.

Take some of that $100,000 and hire an editor.

“As much of a disappointment this is, it has also opened a door for us to start a brand new label, and with your help, we can achieve ground breaking results with not just Orgy, but giving other bands an opportunity and chance in the industry with us.”

This is fucking sickening. Help us form a company.

I’d ask what people get out of it, and I could go find out. But I don’t care that much.

“Without a major label backing and funding us it makes it very difficult and expensive to record, produce and distribute our music to the fans,” Orgy contends.

“Once we do that we need to hit the road and tour, not just nationally, but internationally as well (can you believe we have never toured Europe or Japan?)”

I can.

“Essentially we want you guys, the fans, to help get the new band and label off the ground, that way we can maintain creative freedom and do what WE want to do and not what another label tells us to do.”

The band also provided the following budget.

TOTAL STUDIO TIME: $15,0000
TOTAL TAPE: $800
TOTAL TRAVEL & LODGING: $7,108
TOTAL INSTRUMENT RENTAL/TALENT: $3,200
TOTAL INSTRUMENT RENTAL/TALENT: $1,687.50
TOTAL PRODUCER FEES: $22,250
TOTAL PRODUCTION BUDGET: $50,045.50

According to the band, “the remainder of the money will go towards touring and starting the label.”
