Yes, Josh Smick — I had heard of Plector before you sent me a message on Facebook last night, but had no fucking idea they broke up.
Fucking bummed, I am.
The good news is they have one last album coming out called Punishment Day.
It appears the band played its final show September 15 in Umeå, Sweden.
A statement released by Discouraged Records says that since 2010, “the band started showing a lack of progress, and due to the financial exhaustion that comes from being an underground band, combined with other priorities, Plector only managed to perform a total of three live shows in Sweden during 2011.”
“For a band that takes pride in their live shows, that’s not sufficient. During the summer of 2012, with Punishment Day being finished, the band admitted to themselves that they were slipping apart and found it hard to motivate themselves in the Plector-department. A unanimous decision was made, and with the release of Punishment Day at Discouraged Fest in September 2012, Plector visits the stage for the last time. As a band with a strong visual history at Youtube, the event will of course be recorded and made available for the public in the aftermath of the Festival.”
The album will be released October 31 all over Europe. Not sure if it’ll come out here in the states.
This really does blow. Few young death metal bands exhibited the kind of prowess these dudes did.
Now, let’s say goodbye to Plector by listening to new Plector.
