So brutal, in fact, that a senior police officer — on the force for more than 23 years — says the murder scene was one of the most brutal he’s ever seen.
Matthew John Hall — the frontman for the New Zealand-based death metal band — was stabbed repeatedly in his bed, inside his apartment; his roommate discovered his body on Tuesday (February 15). According to reports, police still don’t have a motive for the heinous killing, and investigators say the injuries Hall had sustained were “horrific.”
“In 23 years of the police, I’ve seen a number of homicides…these are some of the most graphic and horrific injuries I’ve seen,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton, adding that police still don’t even know what kind of weapon was used to stab Hall.
Police said they do not believe the murder was drug-related, and explored Hall’s work life for possible clues. Meanwhile, forensic experts continue to comb over the scene for clues Hall’s funeral is being planned for next week. Rest in peace, man.
