The Los Angeles Police Department has issued the following press release about the discovery of Jani Lane’s dead body last night in a hotel in Los Angeles. Lane, the former singer for Warrant, was 47 at the time of his death.

“On August 11, 2011, patrol officers from Topanga station responded to a 9-1-1 call of a death investigation in Woodland Hills,” the press release states. “At around 5:30 p.m., Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived to the 20100 block of Ventura Boulevard, immediately followed by Topanga Area officers. When emergency personnel arrived, the Fire Department pronounced the death of a 47-year-old man, later identified as Jani Lane, the [former] lead singer of the popular rock band Warrant.

“The cause of death is unknown and the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office is conducting an investigation into Mr. Lane’s death.”

Meanwhile, TMZ.com learned that police found a half-empty bottle of vodka and prescription medication in the hotel room where Jani was found belly-up. An autopsy is scheduled for later today. TMZ claims Lane’s death is being treated as an accidental overdose or a possible death from natural causes.

The best is how everyone’s talking about how awesome the dude was now. I couldn’t have found anyone two days ago to say something nice about Lane. Even the dudes from Warrant, who still carry on with a different frontman and have bashed the dude time and again, are doing some sort of tribute for Jani. Amy Winehouse was a saint too.
