Dude, this blows my mind. But then again, I guess I could’ve seen it coming. Meatloaf, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ratt, Korn…and now formerly-awesome prog metal icons Queensrÿche have signed “a multi-album, worldwide deal with Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records.” A press release just went out about it that claims the band’s 12th, as-yet-untitled disc will be in stores in the spring.
“Singer and founder Geoff Tate remains the creative nucleus of the band, which continues to make relevant, against-the-grain hard rock that entices fans, both new and diehard,” the press release says. That picture up there to the left’s Geoff in two years, when Roadrunner drops the ball a fifth time on the promotion of an album by a bunch of old dudes. Good luck trying to get them on the cover of Revolver, if Revolver‘s still around.
“We are very happy to be signing with Road Runner/Loud and Proud. This is the rock label and a place where they are as excited about our music as we and our fans are,” Tate said in the release. Nothing against the band…I love “Silent Lucidity.” But they’d have done better releasing this record online, on their own, like Nine Inch Nails.
