For a second straight week, frustration and/or lack of time prevented me from writing about another band featuring one of our devout readers during the week, so here’s another weekend installment of Readers’ Bands.

This week, we talk a look at, and listen to, the Montreal-based instrumental post-metal outfit Near Grey; guitarist Mitch reached out months and months ago, seeking coverage for its album The Herschel Central Peak.

A thousand apologies for the wait, Mitch.

The good news is, your band isn’t awful.

In fact, Near Grey is actually quite, quite good. And I’m known in at least five counties to be a renowned hater of instrumental acts. So, take that into consideration.

Near Grey will probably appeal to fans of bands like Nothing, but to me, they sound a little like Godspeed You! Black Emperor crossed with Jupiter-era Cave In. But that’s me. And I’m fucking bonkers.

You should definitely check these guys out, especially if you’re into atmospheric ear candy.
