So, who among you listens to melodic progressive metal?
I happen to dig progressive metal and progressive rock, so I was more than just a little pleased to get an email from Gints Grinbergs, the guitarist for Latvian band The Mascaron.
He wrote to Gunshy a while back to praise us for our awesomeness, and to seek coverage for the band’s EP, Beginnings, which came out last year.
According to Gints, The Mascaron’s sound is the result of experimenting with different styles of atmospherics and electronics, combined with melodic and progressive metal, reminiscent of the modern “djent” characteristics.
No doubt. I mean, there are times when this band sounds like Meshuggah crossed with a male-fronted Nightwish. I know that doesn’t sound all that appealing, but I dig what The Mascaron are doing.
I think you might to.
Check out some of the band’s music below, and give us some feedback. Heck, we may have just introduced you to your new favorite band.
