It’s true

The quick version of this story is, You’re fucked.

Your hearing, in particular. That’s because you love metal, and, well, metal shows are fucking loud and you don’t always remember to bring earplugs with you, so…you’re fucked.

The World Health Organization’s latest figures claim 1.1 billion teenagers and young adults are at risk of permanently damaging their hearing by listening to “too much, too loudly” and that over 43 million people between the age of 12 and 35 are already living with hearing loss.

I definitely am. Fucking blows eagles.

“The emerging pattern of listening regularly at high volume and for a long duration poses a serious threat,” says the report. “While it is important to keep the volume down, limiting the use of personal audio devices to less than one hour a day would do much to reduce noise exposure.”

Additionally, a loud concert at 120 decibels stops being safe after 28 seconds, the report claims.

Listening to your headphones at 105 decibels is safe for just four minutes, they caution.
