The worst part about being a small band, aside from touring in a van, is getting paid. I’ve been told by band dudes it is a most awkward situation sometimes.
Some promoters are shady, and try to undercut bands after they’ve already performed.
This weekend, a promoter named Floyd Daniel allegedly disappeared after a show in Savannah, Georgia. The gig features Eyehategod, Ringworm, and Enabler.
The Saturday show at Dollhouse Productions was priced at $25 a ticket. But Lionel apparently took off, never paying the bands or the venue.
“So, yeah, us, Enabler and Eyehategod got ripped off in Savannah, GA. The promoter, Floyd Lionel, left and didn’t pay any of us. His email is [email protected] and phone is 404 713 2468 (although it appears to be shut off).”
An article about Lionel, printed last week, claims he’s probably now in New York.
[UPDATE: Lionel has since issued a statement, saying “apologies all around for Saturday not making excuses but I suffer from Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) what you witnessed Saturday night was a person having a full blown mental breakdown due to a lot of undue stress from what was already a very long and stressful day. My departure was not based upon any attempt to avoid responsibilities or as some corners have said ‘run off with band money.’ But to prevent a situation that could have quite easily deteriorated into a far worse harmful situation for myself and others around me. Again apologies to all whom were directly adversely affected by my breakdown.”]
