Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival Bill Confirmed

And there are no surprises here. No daring choices. No innovation. Just safe, generic choices — bands you’ve likely seen time and again.

Now, to address a comment our previous story on the lineup generated: I love Slayer. I have seen Slayer a bazillion times. Yes, Slayer rule, but in the last two years, it feels like I have seen Slayer 20 times. No shit. They need to chill the fuck out; I’m hoping Jeff Hanneman will be back with the guys for the summer trek.

Here’s the official lineup, announced just hours ago: Slipknot (who are headlining; what kind of a world is this?), Slayer, Anthrax, The Devil Wears Prada, Asking Alexandria (which boggles the fucking mind), As I Lay Dying, Whitechapel and the only saving grace, High On Fire.

Yes, Whitechapel are OK; they have been working on a new disc lately with Mark Lewis, who is a super cool dude. But lately, they’ve been more trend than trendsetting, which — to me — is indicative of laziness or greed.

This lineup is fucking weak, man. Weak. Perhaps the weakest bill yet. Thankfully, Summer Slaughter is rumored to feature Cannibal Corpse and Between The Buried and Me, which would make me piss cream corn.

There were so many bands that made a serious impact in 2011, and deserve a slot on this tour. Instead, it’s like the same shit, just a different year. Fuck, man. Mayhem? More like Fay-hem.
