It would have been a better headline with the word “Adores” but, hey…Cannibal Corpse isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
In fact, they’re more like a cup of piss.
According to RIA Novosti, Dmitry Tsorionov — the head of “God’s Will,” a Russian Orthodox social movement — is imploring authorities in that country to cancel some upcoming concerts featuring the Florida death metal act.
Dude claims Cannibal Corpse’s music violates Russia’s anti-blasphemy law.
Tsorionov (who sometimes goes by Dmitry Enteo) said believers condemned the band’s lyrics, which promote “religious hatred” and describe in detail rape and murder of children.
In July 2013, Russia passed a new anti-blasphemy law introducing fines and possible prison sentences for offending the “feelings of religious believers.”
That’s fucking whack!
Why? Because I am offended that this dude would even waste his time opposing something as inconsequential (in general societal terms, obviously) as music.
Fight hunger. Fight human trafficking. Fight injustice. Fight child abuse by priests.
Don’t fight Cannibal Corpse.
In case you didn’t know, the band’s own Rob Barrett was a recent guest on this site’s podcast, called the Disastercast. Check that out here.
