You know, I finally listened to the new Satyricon record the other day. Being a fan of most of their previous work, I was psyched to soak in the new stuff.
I don’t do reviews on this site. I leave that to Mr. von Wienerhaus. But I’d be remiss if I didn’t offer the following thoughts on the new Satyricon, out September 17 on Nuclear Blast.
It’s so very disappointing. I hate to say it.
It’s not even that I was disappointed because it’s been so long since the last record, and so my hopes were high. I went in with no expectations. Other than it’d be Satyricon.
And it’s fucking totally embarrassing. Maybe I need to listen to it a few more times, but three times seemed sufficient. Why listen to something that makes you sad metaphysically when the new Gorguts and Carcass records are available to you.
By the way, Satyricon released a lyric video for the song “Our World, It Rumbles Tonight” today — maybe the only redeeming track on the disc. It’s at the end of this post
This is why I don’t do record reviews. I’m not very good at them. And also, I can’t be bought. I just learned some sites charge labels and bands $500 for ads before they’ll even agree to a review or any sort of coverage.
The system is broken and I intend on fixing it.
