If you dig Mastodon, then you should check out Oakland, Calif.’s Saviours, stoner rock revolutionaries who are part of this summer’s resurrected Ozzfest. I wonder how much they were charged to be on the bill?
Last year, Saviours released one of my Top 10 favorite metal albums of 2009…Accelerated Living, a smorgasbord of heavy that rips from the speakers like a magic kiss. This is serious shitwolfing music, for sure. And now, Saviours are bound to win more fans when they take the most infamous stage in metal.
Oh, and when you pay exorbitant amounts of cash to be on such tours, you need to make it up somehow. Hence, Saviours recently entered a recording studio to track a EP in Holland.
“We recorded one new song and then a 21 minute ‘alternate’ version of it, which will be mixed to full heavy psychedelic fruition by Guy [Tavares] over the next month and eventually included on an upcoming EP,” the band explains. In addition, they’ve rolled out a bunch of Ozzfest off-dates with DevilDriver, Kataklysm, Skeletonwitch, Black Label Society, and Kingdom of Sorrow, because, let’s face it — off-dates are the only way to make money on Ozzfest.
And by the way, those bands aren’t all playing together, on every date. Saviours is opening, obviously.
