Call me crazy, but I do not like Serj Tankian’s solo shit. Maybe I’m deaf? Actually, I do have hearing loss; years of hardcore shows as a youth have, in fact, done a wicked number on my motherfucking ears, but still — these Serj solo records are just caca.
I don’t know, man. These albums annoy me. As a fan of that first System of a Down record, and even the band’s subsequent albums, I find these Serj discs to be quite irritating. It’s like, “Dude, we get it — you’re an artist in your own fucking right. Now, how’s about putting out something with System?”
Tankian is about to complete work on his third solo offering, which will likely be more disheartening and off-putting than an album full of Frank Zappa’s pre-”beer shits” flatulence. It’s called Harakiri and Serj self-produced it. at his own Serjical Strike Studios in Los Angeles.
“The record is different than any I’ve made as a solo artist. It is much more driving and punk-oriented with influences ranging from goth to electronic to 80′s vibes, dynamically heavy rock to epic melodic songs,” says Serj.
Gee. Can’t wait for that.
“Lyrically, it spans the gauntlet of themes from personal, political and philosophical to spiritual, humor and love,” says Serj.
Serj says he has three other new albums written, and will punish us with those in the not-so-distant future. One is “a jazz record,” while another is an electronic record he co-wrote with some dude from Mindless Self Indulgence, and “a full classical symphony called Orca.”
