Last night, Skeletonwitch played a set in Brooklyn without their frontman, Chance Garnette.

Chance’s brother, guitarist Nate Garnette, explained at the show’s outset that the singer had to return to Ohio “to take care of some personal” matters.

There’s no word yet on what this personal issue is, or when Chance will be back with the band for the remainder of their shows with Amon Amarth and Sabaton.

Nate said last night the band preferred to play the set at St. Vitus rather than cancel it.

Nate seemed slightly nervous — not used to the role of band leader — as he apologized for the instrumental set.

Because of this nervousness, a fan in the crowd yelled out “Skeletonwitch!”

“Thanks for that,” a reassured Nate said, as the band tore into the opener.

The instrumental set was still fucking killer, delivered with ferocity. Dustin’s drumming was fucking intimidating (check out his column for us on horror films here), and the guys sounded tighter than a nun. The fans loved every minute of it.

Three songs in, between songs, Nate asked “is this as weird for you as it is for us?”

Clearly, not having his bro there was foremost on his mind.

Detecting this, another fan yelled “Eat pussy.” Nate smiled, reminded that the crowd was there to see the band…not just Chance.

It was a unique set and one I will never forget.

There has been no official word from the band on their social networks about Chance’s absence.
