In an article written for Esquire Magazine, former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash says he’s trying to let bygones be bygones.
“The split between Axl [Rose] and I was a quiet one,” writes Slash, ahead of Guns N’ Roses’ impending induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
It remains a mystery whether there will be a reunion on stage of the original carnation of Guns N’ Roses — which would be a first since 1978, or something.
“But because there was so much attention on the breakup — and are we going to get back together? — it got built up into this monster that led to a kind of animosity that wasn’t the focus for me,” Slash offers.
“Neither one of us wants to be down each other’s throats for no reason. At this point, I’m trying to put it to rest.”
Slash wrote that when he sees “footage of Guns N’ Roses, I see that fucking hunger and attitude. You could not fuck with those five guys. It was just raw. It was this lean, hungry thing on its way up. It was as sincere as any rock ‘n’ roll that I’ve ever heard, and I’m proud of that.”
I would love to see all the original guys accept the award together. I’m sure discussions are happening now to make it a reality.
