I figured if I ever read about Lars Ulrich of Metallica being cast in a film, it would be because they were finally remaking “The Wizard Of Oz” and needed a new lollipop guild. I just had a thought — could you imagine Lars, Sully Erna from Godsmack, and Slipknot’s Joey Jordison as the new lollipop guild? Fuck…I’d just die.
But they are not remaking “Oz,” as far as I know. Instead, Lars will be in a new HBO flick called “Hemingway And Gellhorn,” which is set to star Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen. And because I didn’t see the film, I guess Lars was also in “Get Him To The Greek.” So, I guess Lars wants to be an actor now?
The film’s described as “a drama centered on the romance between Ernest Hemingway and WWII correspondent Martha Gellhorn, Hemingway’s inspiration for ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls’ and the only woman who ever asked for a divorce from the writer.”
Ulrich will play Dutch documentarian Joris Ivens in the TV movie, which follows the couple’s relationship from the time they met in 1936 through the time they spent together in the Spanish Civil War. Wow. I wonder if he had to have a proper audition for this part?
Personally, my favorite bit of Lars’ acting came in the film “Some Kind of Monster,” but that’s just me.
