The plot thickens in the sudden death of Warrant singer Jani Lane, who was found belly up in a Los Angeles hotel room from a suspected accidental overdose August 11.
According to TMZ, Lane had no identification on him the day he died, but there was a note in his pocket that read “I am Jani Lane.”
Police say the note was not written by Lane. Instead, the note had the phone number for a person close to Jani. Police called the number, and learned this is not the first time a friend’s planted a note on Lane.
Investigators confirmed to TMZ that the note was written by one of Jani’s friends who had placed a similar note on Jani in the past…because he was a fucking mess. Sounds like someone new Jani had a whole bunch of junk on him, and was ready to die. Most times, accidental overdose is just a better way of saying suicide.
TMZ claims members of Jani’s family are furious the person who wrote the note didn’t help Lane seek treatment for his substance abuse problems, but simply tucked a piece of paper into dude’s pants.
Police would not say if the person who wrote the note is the same person who checked Jani into the Comfort Inn where he spent his last moments; it appears the room where Jani was discovered was not purchased by Jani himself.
