In a new interview, System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan says he hopes the on-hiatus-but-still-playing-shows-but-refuse-to-record band gets back to the business of making chaotic avant metal soon.
When? In John’s ideal world, next year.
“We don’t know what will happen next,” John admits. “I’d like to be in the studio at this time next year…possibly making an album by 2014.”
It would mark the first time the band’s been in a studio in more than five years.
Sometimes, I think I’d love to hear some new System of a Down. Other times, I realize there are bands like Nachtmystium and Gojira making albums that’d intimidate the likes of System, so…why would I want just another complacent though frenzied rock record?
I wouldn’t. And you shouldn’t either.
Does John worry what people think of the band? “If we were concerned about what people think, System wouldn’t exist. I have no concerns about what the [new] album will sound like. I just worry about when it will come out.”
John also says he’s rather the hiatus be a bit abbreviated, but…it’s really up to Serj Tankian, isn’t it?
