Proving once again you can say whatever you want about Christians, but never, ever make any kind of political commentary on any other religion.
According to the Arab television network Al Arabiya, Norwegian black metal awesomeness Taake have pissed off a few folks in the Middle East, after being nominated for a Norwegian music award despite having written lyrics that are allegedly anti-Islamic.
Taake’s Noregs Vaapen record was nominated in the “Metal” category, along with Vreid, Shining, and others.
Muslim critics argue the lyrics in the band’s song “Orkan” are xenophobic as they include the phrase “To hell with Muhammad and the Mohammedans” and their “unforgivable customs.”
That’s some thin skin there, huh homey?
“Our view, in the name of freedom of expression, is that it is shameful to adhere to Christianity or Islam,” says Hoest, Taake’s leader.
Marte Thorsby, chairman of the prize committee’s board, denied allegations judges had not properly listened to the album before giving it a nod.
“We enjoy full freedom of expression in Norway and a Spellemann jury is not going to censor content in any way,” she told local media.
We here at Gun Shy Assassin are big supporters of free speech and Taake. See?
