The Deftones: Touring Like Mad All Summer

Chino Moreno

There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about Chi Cheng, who is showing signs of improvement after being in a coma for more than a year. He was involved in a car accident just before the Presidential election, and he’s been bed-ridden ever since. It break my heart to know that such a tender dude had to endure the brunt of such tragic misfortune.

The Deftones have carried on without Chi. Not that I blame them. As soon as Chi recovers, he’ll be right back with them. So its all good. Alas, the album the band had recorded with Chi, Eros, has been shelved. Hopefully not for good. The latest D-Tones disc, if you haven’t heard it yet, is fucking phenomenal. A real return to what we all love about the leaders of the Sacto scene. To quote a friend, “It’s the first album I’ve listened to twice since White Pony.”

So, they’ve got a smash-a-hammer-through-your-ear-drums disc out, and the Deftones always put on a good show. This fall, they’ll be heading out with Mastodon and Alice in Chains, but before they do, Chino Moreno et al will be hitting the road for a batch of their own headlining dates. I guess as a primer to the fall tour. Unfortunately, the thing doesn’t come anywhere near Manhattan, so I guess that means I’m just shit out of luck. But if you live in any of the towns that are getting this tour, please, do me a favor and go.

Here are those dates, and please…send some positivity Chi’s way. We need that man to return to form and melt our fucking faces again!
