This is kind of incredibly rad.
Thrawsunblat, a band that featured late Woods of Ypres frontman David Gold, is back in action.
Erstwhile Woods of Ypres guitarist Joel Violette announced the news this week that the blackened folk metal band had been reactivated.
Thrawsunblat has been working on music for its sophomore LP, Thrawsunblat II: Wanderer On The Continent Of Saplings.
The first album dropped in 2010 and boasted Gold on drums.
Joel handled everything else.
Thrawsunblat II, Joel claims, pushes the boundaries of its predecessor with a musical landscape featuring blackened folk metal as well as Maritime acoustic folk.
The album runs twelve tracks and sixty minutes, and even boasts fiddle, piano, and Irish whistle performances.
Joel has enlisted Rae Amitay of Mares of Thrace along with Brendan Hayter to handle drums and bass, respectively.
“Thrawsunblat II is an incredibly special way for the three of us to create music together,” says Rae. “It’s an amazing project, and I’m honored that Joel has chosen us to be a part of it.”
