When I first heard that they were making a movie about Facebook, I almost threw up on my eyeballs. My first thought was, “What’s next? A movie about Blabbermouth?” At the time, though, it was Jerry Bruckheimer or some other Hollywood douchenozzle. But now that I hear Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor’s scoring the flick and “Fight Club” director David Fincher is back behind the lens, my interest has been piqued. Then I found out Justin Timberlake’s starring in the thing, and I DID vomit on my eyeballs.
Reznor, who’s been busy with his new wife Mariqueen Maandig in their project How to Destroy Angels, said he’d be working with Atticus Ross on the score and that he’s “always loved David’s work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story.”
Reznor took to his Web site and defended the move. “When I actually read the script and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned. It’s really fucking good. And dark!”
Not that this will be the first time Reznor’s worked on tunes for the big screen. He handled the production of two soundtracks, 1994’s Natural Born Killers soundtrack and 1997’s Lost Highway.
“The level of excellence that David operates on is inspiring and the entire process has been challenging and truly enjoyable,” Reznor writes. “As Atticus and I near the end of the scoring process, we’re looking forward to the next phase — distilling the large amount of music we’ve written for this down to a satisfying record (or two).”
The film comes out in October, but Reznor says the soundtrack should be available in September. This fall, Reznor and his wife are expecting their first child.
