Well, shit…never before have I wanted it to be October in the middle of the summer. That’s a first. But you could understand why. After all, Triptykon will — as rumored — be hitting the road this fall with Norwegian black metallers 1349 and Yakuza, the much-respected avant metal act from Chicago. Shit…meets pants! I mean, this is one hell of a tour, folks.
As you should know, Triptykon is the black metal outfit formed by ex-Hellhammer/Celtic Frist frontman and guitarist Tom Gabriel Warrior.
Triptykon released their debut disc in March. Called Eparistera Daimones, the record sold around 1,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The album cover features H.R. Giger’s painting “Vlad Tepes.” Its the first time in 17 years the Swiss artist has permitted a band to use his work as their LP’s art. And the record is pretty brutal. I mean, this is going to be one hell of a tour, people. If you like blackened metal, be sure not to miss this one, which kicks off in New York on October 6. Lucky me!
“Ever since my earliest days in Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, I have been extremely fortunate to be able to count on the support, fanaticism, and immense loyalty of the North American metal scene,” Warrior said. “The recognition my work has received there eclipses anything I have ever encountered in my own native country. Of the 125 concerts performed on the final Celtic Frost tour in 2006 and 2007, for example, a full 71 were played in North America. Some of these performances rank among the most memorable ones in my entire career. It is thus an immense honor for me to now bring my new group Triptykon to North America for the first time. Triptykon is further pursuing the path I once began with Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, and I am looking forward to continuing to forge this darkest of musical alliances with all of you. We shall all celebrate masses of unleashed heaviness and morbidity. Only death is real!”
