Today’s date is July 22.
Remember this day. This is the day we introduced you to your new favorite band.
They’re from Austin, Texas, and they are called Unmothered.
An exclusive track from the band’s upcoming self-titled EP follows at the end of this post. Called “Leviathan,” the tune has some of the sickest guitars you’re likely to ever hear.
The EP will be limited to 500 vinyl copies and is now available from Toxic Assets Records (and distributed by the formidable 20 Buck Spin).
The outing was tracked back in 2012’s winter months at the Recording Conservatory of Austin and tracked and mixed by Andrew Storrow and Unmothered. The stunning album art comes courtesy of Andrew Sloan (Altar of Plagues, Witch Mountain, Black Magician, Castle).
The band cites Castevet, Unwound, Young Widows, Unsane, and Yob as influences and it shows.
They’ve dubbed themselves “haunt rock,” but to me, it’s sludgy, doomy awesomeness that’s at least 80 percent better than half the shit you think is dope.
